Bereisheet

Greetings Reader,

So this is my blog and this is my first post . So everyone is clear about this blog, I have decided that it will be helpful to lay out a few points, so everyone is clear about this place -

1. Who are you- an Orthodox Jew, married 40 something of Iraqi and British descent, living in Great Britain.

2. What is this blog about ?- Judaism and how a Jew can and should actively engage this world, without loosing their Jewish practice, identity or beliefs. I make claim to fame or to be particularly learned. This is my own 'raw' account, I'm not a mini-Pope, so I may be wrong on some of my views. But that's life.

3. Who is it aimed at? - Broadly speaking anyone who wishes to read it,  but specifically this is a blog for my family and friends, so we can help each other in practicing our faith.

4.Can I comment? -Yes. If you wish to swim in the deep end of this blog, great, I welcome intelligent and erudite discussion. If you prefer shallower waters, please note there is to be no shouting, running or piddling in that section thereof, unless you do so in a witty way and one which does not upset people.

5. Will you do anything about food? -Yes, if I can get one of my sisters or brothers to post about it.

Right, now we've got all that done and over with, time for the first topic of this blog.

*Shalom*

    1. Hannah, you'll have to help me with the food posts and the bits about science, though.

    2. Hi David

Will try to help, although I am busy and quite weary of blogging (although not commenting which is easier). How come you've put nothing up for a week?

    3. Hannah,

I have been busy, but my intention was to post a least once a week with something serious to say.

    4. Hi David

Poor old you for being very busy ! On the positive side, for me at least, Ellen Page has 'come out'.

    5. Americans and the rest of the western world seems to be very obsessed with this issue of one's sexual orientation these days!

    2. Wow! She's like totally awesome, I've got a girlfriend now. Proper Sephardi (Spanish) Jew too, fleeing the Franco- esque Spain and EU, she's working for that Spanish bank that took out the B*B bank, whilst doing a PhD part time. Got a date next Shabbat, well she's coming round to Hannah's place, so that is as good as.I'm such a gentlemen, we didn't even snog! Good things come to he who waits!

    1. Natasha, thanks, I decided to start this blog, in part for you as you are at university and got accosted by those bloody Messianics. Any luck with the JewSoc?

    2. Hi Dad,

Uh, the JewSoc is as secular as you can get! The Christian Union is doing an 'evangelizing' mission! I feel like looking myself into a room for a week!

    3. No point in locking yourself up, as you have as much right to go about your business as they do theirs. If you don't feel confident about engaging with them- just say that you are not interested as politely as possible. They will then mumble or gloat about how this is 'the offence of the gospel' and how they should except rejection. It makes them feel better. If you want to discuss it with them, do so, but they might think you are interested and that might make things worse.

    1. Esther, sorry to hear that. Eric Pickles is surely big enough to plug the floods anyway? Joking aside, I hope we can get something sorted re that insurance claim.

  7. David, Looking forward to connecting over the cyber space forum. Sorry, bro, it's been too long since we last spoke. I hear Esther is drowning in the south west of England. Here in Israel, it isn't so bad!
