Thoughts on Gaza

David here,

So there is a cease-fire agreement in place between Israel and Hamas.  For Israel a lot has been achieved, such as destroying the terrorist tunnels and hitting the terrorist cells hard. But there has been a cost on lives and money: $2.5 billion, 70 Israeli dead and 2,000 Gazans, not all terrorists have lost their lives.

Then  there is the backlash against the Jewish diaspora community, the terrible relationship between Israel and the US... and seemingly most media outside of Israel was hostile to her. Bibi's popularity has slumped, despite overwhelming support for the war in Israel, his cabinet seems quite divided.

So no one comes out a clear winner. But for the various parties involved, my personal view is that Israel stopped too early, probably due to US and European pressures. However much  this has effected the political landscape, it won't alter the fact Hamas is still there.  Sooner or later, when they've rearmed they will start to attack Israel again. The cycle will continue until Hamas is gone or Israel. And it won't be Israel disappearing.

  1. Hi David,

Alas because the campaign was stopped halfway through, Israel is going to be in the same situation in a couple of months. But was this forced from the outside or was it Israeli policy to be limited in what they did?

  2. How much more could they have done, given the context and the UN screaming war crimes at every opportunity??

  3. True, but Israel had little choice but to stop. I'm sure the Americans would have forced Israel into this sooner or later, right or wrong, that is what happened.

  4. What ever the rights and wrongs of Hamas, this article is nonsense. Israel does not want peace or coexistence other than on its terms. It has just stolen more land to build settlements for what are illegal immigrants on Palestinian land. This is really the most hypocritical moment to write such an article.

  5. NO COEXISTANCE?..

JORDAN JUST SIGNED A LONG TERM CONTRACT For israeli GAS ..JORDAN IS 60% PALESTINIAN

Gaza will flourish with un and western money just waiting to rebuild to prove that there is a way to make a successful palestinian state........but hamas will probably renew the war at the end of this month once it sees that as long as it is armed there will be no metal tubes for rockets no concrete and metal for tunnels and no economic gains for gaza.

  6. For a brief while during the latest Gaza conflict, I too began to have doubts about the political nous of Hamas. Perhaps, I thought, they were at least dumb and were inviting Israeli retaliation. No. The Israelis have proved beyond all doubt that the Zionist ethos will simply never allow for peace bases on any semblance of justice. Hama's has become a useful scapegoat for Israel. Brief uncertainties have evaporated. As long as the west slavishly finances and follows Israel's dictates there can be no prospect for peace. On the gigantic canvas all one can see is the rise of anti western sentiment in the Muslim world. The primary reason is the West's subservience to Zionists racist expansionism.

  7. And how is Gaza supposed to be built up when Israel bombs it back to the Stone Age every three years? Recently saw an article claiming at the rate Israel allows building/construction material into their 67 year old concentration camp, it will be twenty years before the damage from this IDF offensive will be repaired--and by then it will have been reduced to rubble at least six more times. Since the first Zionist colonist showed up 150 years ago, Israeli's have had a choice: peaceful coexistence, or armed conquest/ethnic cleansing. And since that first day, the conscious has always been the latter. And as this article illustrates, the rationalizations for that policy choice keep getting more intellectually insulting, historically anti-factual, polemically strident-to-hysterical, and morally despicable with each one-sided "war".

    Actually, it's pretty easy:
    --Don't fire rockets and mortars
--Don't infiltrate and try to kill people
--Focus less on the "hated Zionists" and more on your fellow Palestinians by investing in your economy, in education, and by teaching peace, rather than purchasing arms and inciting violence
--Don't start wars unless you're willing to accept the consequences of your actions

If the Palestinians of Gaza did this, I can assure you that there would make great strides at getting themselves out of the "Stone Age". The Israelis would be happy to leave them be.

You can't conduct an offensive war and then complain that you don't like the outcome.

  9. Ah, the stirring cacophonous bleat of the "Kill Israel Now" herd. Has it been a month since last it raised its collective whine?

  11. Yea and it will be just as unpleasant. I did hear that there was talk of a UN peacekeeping force. Great more human shields for Hamas, next time. Oh and yes I did suggest a UN peacekeeping force, but only after Israel had got Hamas or Hamas had disarmed. Let us face it the UN couldn't organise a puss up on a brewery.

  12. So it's all the fault of Jews? What a pathetic argument!

  13. Yes, when a gas strapped Arab state runs out of resources they turn to Israel for help, not Arab brothers. You know why? Because the alter ego of Hamas in Egypt, the Muslim brotherhood have been conducting a low level and much non reported insurgency in the Sinai, thus crippling Egyptian gas supplies to be the rest of the Arab world. Egypt also relies on Israeli gas as well. Jordan, however, shares a land border with the biggest oil and gas supplier, Saudi. Wonder why they didn't help?Oh and the Arab press is reporting this as a deal with America, as the firm operating the Israeli gas field is listed in Oklahoma.

  14. Yawn. Why do I put up with this on my blog? I guess I really do believe in letting opposition to have a voice. Unlike you idiots

  15. Well said thought!
    No one asks questions like,
"Why fire rockets when retaliation is guaranteed?
"When the wall you are banging your head against starts to crunble, maybe it's time to stop?"
"What kind of government exposes its civilian population to such danger and thinks they have won a propaganda coup by showing the corpses?"
"What kind of government spends millions on digging tunnels for its fighters, but nothing on shelters for its civilians?"

    That kind of thing...
But... Shabbat Shalom to all my Jewish friends and may God Bless and protect Aretz Yisrael and people of goodwill everywhere..

  19. As a pro-Israeli Hindu, I can only say that the people of India respect and are fully behind the Jew in the war against the terrorist.

  20. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine the true political leader of the free world would be holding office in Jerusalem, and not 1600 Pennsylvania Ave - at least in my lifetime.I weep that my country has grown so weak, so quickly, after offering so much to so many. And it makes me ashamed that I could do nothing about it.

  21. Strange (and depressing) to see this blog supporting the unsupportable.

1,000 Palestinians dead and only 32 Israelis. Of the 32 Israelis, 30 are soldiers and 1 civilian bringing food and aid to the soldiers, and 1 real civilian. Therefore 1, I repeat 1, civilian is the victim of terrorism. One.

According to the UN, 75% of the Palestinians killed are civilians, the other 250 resistance fighters.

So, a legitimate question WHO ARE THE TERRORISTS HERE?

Nobody with a rational mind supports the Israeli Taliban having a picnic while they cheer on the slaughter in deck chairs.

Interesting take there: do you the Obama that bad? I thought you were a true believer democrat?

    Welcome and great stuff!!

  25. Yes, but I think the assault on Gaza was so extreme this time that Kerry and Obama were genuinely shocked. Ditto Phillip Hammond. Although they parroted the usual crap about Israel having the right to defend itself, behind the scenes they seemed to put a lot of pressure on Netanyahu. No, I'm not taking the piss, I genuinely think that's why things have gone quiet over there .

  26. The flame that burns Twice as bright burns half as long.

America is in the process of overextension, indebtedness and detaching itself from any realistic global strategy. When they go down, watch to see them bring a lot of other people down too.

The Democrats have, for decades, lobbied against Israel. The US State Department, since 1948, was against recognition of Israel. They were reined in by presidents and congressmen who had a different vision. But now, the atheist party has gathered its strength and is striking out against God-s chosen. They cannot help themselves. This is prophecy.

  28. I am American, a Democrat of the South. Shouldn't Obama's sympathies for terrorists been realized by voters back in 2012 (if not 2008)? How many times will this perfidious president betray Israel, and yet be given "a pass"? It should be universal knowledge by now that Obama operates on behalf of America's enemies not her allies and friends !Look at his disgraceful treatment of England with the Falklands and the return of the Churchill bust. And now look at how he panders to terrorists, rather than supporting our Jewish friends in Israel.

I never thought these thoughts would enter my mind, much less the words escape my lips, but THIS REGIME HAS IMPERILED ISRAEL IN HER HOUR OF NEED, our pathological liar and dick-in-chief in the White Mosque has failed to defend Israel, I hope the Senate will impeach him for failing to uphold the honor and integrity of the United States of America.

For these un-American, leftover hippie burnout, commie/mooslim loving corrupt/thieves enriching themselves from our tax dollars while watching veterans suffer and die from their THIEVERY......I cannot remember when I have been this mad - sorry for rambling.

  29. True, I think that the west blackmailed Israel before she could finish the job of kicking Hamas's arse, but I disagree with you on the reason you give for that.

  30. I don't think America is in any terminal decline. Unlike Britain in the 1900s, the US is a unified polity and continental country with still vast resources and human capital, the dollar is still the world currency and no other viable alternative is around. The US defence forces are the greatest on the planet and is far ahead of anything elsewhere.

  31. Hi Billy,

    What prophecy is that?
