What religion are you?

Just for a bit of fun, I decided to take this 'what religion are you test'  here .

This is  my result:

1.
Orthodox Judaism (100%)
2.
Sikhism (92%)
3.
Bahai (88%)
4.
Reform Judaism (85%)
5.
Islam (83%)
6.
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons)(70%)
7.
Eastern Orthodox (61%)
8.
Roman Catholic (61%)
9.
Mainline - Liberal Christian Protestants (61%)
10.
Jainism (58%)

No surprise that I am 100% Orthodox Judaism. It is interesting though, that I am apparently more Sikh and Bahai than I am Reformed Judaism ! But  just in case I didn't get the message, I tried another quiz and it helpfully said to me at the end  :

Jewish

    Al Calavicci ,

Jesus Christ came to fulfill the law, and Catholics and Jewish are alike in rejecting the Lord Jesus Christ. You should know that Jesus is the way to the Father. Right? There is NO other way to the Father.

  4. Vatican Watcher,

Roman Catholics are Christians as well, so why do you claim they reject Jesus?

The people Israel were the people from whom the lineage of Jesus would come through. They were also supposed to be a light to the Gentiles, but legalism made that nearly impossible.

Judaism is not wrong, just incomplete, as they have not embraced Jesus as the promised Messiah.

  6. Unfortunately, you will not hear anything else out of Christians other than "Judaism is wrong because they deny Jesus." Same goes for what they think about all other religions as well.

Religion isn't important; it is the relationship with Jesus Christ that is!

Jesus said that He alone was the way to the Father (John 14:6), that He alone revealed the Father (Matt. 11:27; Luke 10:22). Christians do not go around saying Christ is the only way because they are arrogant, narrow-minded, stupid, and judgmental. They do so because they believe what Jesus said. They believe in Jesus, who claimed to be God (John 8:58; Exodus 3:14), who forgave sins (Mark 2:5; Luke 5:20; 7:48), and who rose from the dead (Luke 24:24-29; John 2:19f). Jesus said that He was the only way. Jesus is unique. He was either telling the truth, He was crazy, or He was a liar. But since everyone agrees that Jesus was a good man, how then could He be both good and crazy, or good and a liar? He had to be telling the truth. He is the only way.

Christianity is not a religion; it is a relationship with God. It is a trusting in Jesus and what He did on the cross (1 Cor. 15:1-4), not on what you can do for yourself (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Buddha didn't rise from the dead, nor did Confucius or Zoroaster. Muhammad didn't fulfill detailed prophecy. Alexander the Great didn't raise the dead or heal the sick. And though there is far less reliable information written about them, they are believed in.

The scripture is right when it says of the Jew, in 1 Pet. 2:7-8, "This precious value, then, is for you who believe. But for those who disbelieve, 'The stone which the builders rejected, this became the very corner stone,' and, 'A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense'; for they stumble because they are disobedient to the word, and to this doom they were also appointed."

  12. Well, interesting test.

    I came out as:

    100% Eastern Orthodox
    100% Roman Catholic
    91% Conservative Protestant
    91% Orthodox Jew

Obviously Jews and orthodox catholic believers (lower case) have much in common.

Good post David. Perhaps you should post this test on the Cranmer blog. Much more interesting than the political one.

I am sure you will be happy to know that I scored closer to Orthodox Judaism (55%) than Liberal Protestantism (52%).

Actually that Liberal Protestant score is pretty high for me - which makes me wonder about the test. Although it did score me at 100% conservative mainline Protestant which is exactly correct.

Modern humans have existed for 100,000 years, so why did God wait 95,000 years before he made contact? And why was that contact made with only a small tribe in the Middle East? The problem was further exacerbated by the question of why God would “choose” a certain people over another in the first place, while ignoring the many vibrant civilizations that existed all over the world at that time? Then it became worse when I realized that God allegedly not only favored the Jews, but he also helped them to fight their neighbors, even to the point of commanding them to kill the adversary’s women and children. Why would a god who had built the entire universe become involved in such cruel and petty absurdity? When looking at the other atrocities ascribed to God in the Old Testament, I also realized that no real god would ever act in that way. I also concluded that the god of the New Testament was very different and could not be the same as the one described in the Old Testament- though, if that is true, then Christianity fails a significant test of authenticity.

I was impressed by this quote from Richard Dawkins:

“The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.”

Christians, stop interpreting your bible and being so f***ing vague when you go cherry picking and just sit down and read the dam thing for yourself, if you can't do that and see all the nonsense that is within it, how can you call yourself moral when your believe on all of this. how can you even call yourself a true christian if your satisfied having a priest breastfeed you the good parts of the bible while leaving out the the bad fruit ( adam and eve reference ) that is inside of it.

The Bible is God's truth. Every word. We will not change it for the sake of atheists.

    Hi

See the comments policy above. You guys have clearly led sheltered lives. There is as much swearing in an English ladies public boarding school, as there is in a factory. And in the student bar. Doesn't mean I like it, but I think it is just within the boundary to get published.

Off to the gym now, for a session on the bike, treadmill and for a swim, so I'll let through replies laters.

Don't forget human sacrifice, including his f*cked up plan to have to put his son on a cross to be totally tortured for the 'sin' he set us up for.

....and then there is our wonderful friend Abraham ..........

Genesis, the first book of the Bible, has Abraham preparing to sacrifice his son to God. "Take your son, your only son – yes, Isaac, whom you love so much – and go to the land of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will point out to you."

(Genesis 22:1-18) Abraham takes his own son up on a mountain and builds an altar upon which to burn him. He even lies to his son and has him help build the altar. Then Abraham ties his son to the altar and puts a knife to his throat. He then hears God tell him this was just a test of his faith.

However, God still wanted to smell some burnt flesh so he tells Abraham to burn a ram.

  25. Lest Louise or some other smug believer tries to squirm using the 'old testament' rule, let them be reminded:

    Mathew 5:

17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. 19 Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Thanks for that. Was wondering if it'd get past whoever was moderating the comments (:

    London's Willy,

Not particularly observant myself, but I do keep Shabbos in many ways. What's wrong with cherry picking? Taking all the good of a religion, is surely better than taking all the bad? Which is what you atheists seem to want to do.

When you accept that life is sh!t, your options are: "do something about it" and "do nothing about it".

If you believe in a supernatural creator, you probably also believe that humanity is doomed, unless everyone believes in the same supernatural creator. As the chances of everyone believing in that same supernatural creator are effectively nil, you are, logically, consigned to believing that the earth is, indeed, doomed and are motivated towards the latter option.

Now that you are not caught in that trap, you can take the first option. Don't set yourself up for disappointment by trying to put the whole world to rights by tomorrow. Start by changing the lives of your neighbours by doing, without conditions or expectation of reciprocity, something that will improve their lives, which they are unable to do, for whatever reason. (Jesus reputedly, and accurately, defined your neighbour for you, so we do not need to explore that area.)

As long as you understand that any improvement you bring about, however small, actually improves the whole world, you are motivated to continue doing it.
Yes. other sh!t will happen, but that sh!t would probably have happened anyway and does not alter or negate the good thing you have done. Over here we have a saying, “Mony a mickle maks a muckle”. Old Scots spelling is a treat, I know, but the truth is not changed by it, and the truth is that lots of little changes, when aggregated, make a big change, so keep on making the little differences.

Sorry about the ramble; I just think it is important that we realise that giving up on a dream that we have discovered to be a nightmare does not mean that we have to give up on all our other or alternate dreams.
