This weeks Shabbos thread

Hi All,

As usual this is the thread where people can share their thoughts of the week, leave prayers or discuss whatever they want, including the week's Torah portion.

I guess this weeks special prayers need to be particularly for the current situation in Gaza; to pray for the safety of our brothers and sisters in  Israel, be they in the IDF or the families of the IDF or the population generally, who are  hold up in bunkers to protect themselves from terrorist rocket attacks. May we pray for peace and no more loss of lives on both sides and may our prayers be received in mercy by Hakodosh Boroch Hu, and help usher in days of peace and security; may we look forward to the coming of the Messiah & the time in which war and suffering will be things of the past.

Here in the UK,  we need to pray over the current debate in the House of Lords over the assisted dying bill; may their Lordships be guided by G-d to vote against this horrendous piece of legislation and may we continue to worship the G-d of life.

Some Tehillim (Psalms)  which I hope will help people:

I'll leave you with this thought :

  3. Israel should never have handed over Gaza whilst Hamas were in charge as it was obvious they were going to just use it as a base to attack Israel, certainly not to make a good home for Palestinians. They bowed to international pressure in that but have left themselves with a permanent problem with no obvious solution. Hamas is happy to sacrifice its people to gain negative propaganda to turn world opinion against Israel and Israel in turn does not put forward good speakers to explain its side. As for Hamas not knowing about the ceasefire, did Egypt not announce it publicly?

    May God bless Israel

And just as in years gone by the ethnic cleansing of Gaza and Palastine will continue as the world looks on and does nothing , And we wonder why ?The actual terrorists here is the Israeli government. Willfully murdering innocent civilians.Where is the UN?

  6. The world needs to do nothing but support Israel right now and just stay out of this and let them put an end to the threat posed towards their nation. They have a right to defend their citizens from criminal action, terrorist and all those that try and destroy them.

  8. What Ethnic cleansing? The Arab population of Israel has gone up year by year! What about the ethnic cleansing of Hannah's family in 1948 and the other Sephardi?

  9. I agree with you there Al.

  10. I agree. Destroy Hamas totally. Every last one of them. Then maybe we will get peace; I'm waiting to see if I've get called up again. Of course I have to; this is my country I'm defending.

  11. I get a bit tired of the 'Israel is a democratically elected government' argument. This is like saying that the South African government during the Apartheid era was democratically elected (by the country's five million whites, many of whom also also used to argue that it was the only democracy in sub-Saharan Africa). Israel effectively controls the occupied territories and the lives and destinies of those who live there. As long as this situation is perpetuated, Israel can never claim to be a true democracy as we understand it.

  12. Yes I agree.

Except there's no pleasing the delusional, hypocritical and sanctimonious liberal/left other than for Israel to surrender to the terrorist onslaught which many anti-Israel commentators make no secret of welcoming.

Quite right. What happened when Israel pulled out of all settlements a few years back? An intifada. There will be peace when Palestinians want peace. When they stop wanting dead Jews there will be peace.

Why does the western media persist on calling Palestinian resistance fighters "terrorists". Would they have called the French resistance the same during ww2?

Worse, is how the western powers look the other way while Israel commits, at best, communal punishment with mass murder, or more likely, extermination/genocide. Is this still post ww2 guilt, or shame/pig headedness to refuse to admit that Israel shouldn't even exist, and had it remained as Palestine, then modern day Islamic terrorism may barely exist.

  19. Was this piece written by Hamas? Might as well have been. Typical and pathetic piece by a hard left nutjob that trips over himself to apologize away every bit of savagery and violence originating from Islamists worldwide.

Curious where your piece is on the slaughter in Syria? Guess you couldn’t blame that one on the USA or Israel so it might as well have never happened, eh Free Palestine?

  20. Shameful revisionism and outright falsities from this propaganda-peddling author do not help resolve a complex issue. Might as well let Hamas write your posts

Israel has a right to exist, full stop. The negotiations between the two break down over this threshold issue. The land Israel annexed was only annexed after Israel was attacked by several countries without provocation.

The Arabs in Palestine repeatedly had opportunities for their own sovereign state, even with a neutral, internationally governed Jerusalem and they rejected all of these opportunities because, in the end, all they want is the destruction of the Jewish state and all the Jews that reside therein.

Gaza is no prison. Israel is not the only country bordering Gaza. And Gaza is not occupied by anyone accept Palestinians and their terrorist leaders, Hamas. Israel withdrew from the territory several years ago and handed it over to the Palestinian people. The barriers between Israel and Gaza exist to protect Israelis (regardless of race or creed) from assassins and Hamas's rockets. Hamas has committed war crimes, encouraging its people to be martyrs. Getting your own civilians slaughtered and using their slaughter as political fodder is not justifiable nor laudable.

This author's incitement for more violence from the Palestinians is absolutely disgusting. Insulated, cowardly people like him cheering on violence from the comfort of their own western bubbles are the worst human beings in our society, just edging out the Taliban and ISIS. At least some of those monsters have a spine and will fight for their own beliefs, however barbaric, misogynist, and backwards their beliefs may be.

Israeli propaganda. All this discussion is unreal; read the Israeli press, especially Netanyahu's statement on the future of relations with the Palestinians. Israeli now has an unassailable right wing government supported by a majority of the population and a mass of religious zealots and right wing settlers. The Israeli peace movement has been weakened and seems impotent. We have to face reality and not comfort ourselves with idle dreams.

What French Resistance? Such resistance could be measured by the amount of time it takes to hike up a skirt. The most aggressive French act of the war was to shave the heads of helpless women - scapegoats made to atone for the cowardice of French manhood. If you wish to associate the Palestinian cause with Vichy, be my guest. It is a more than fitting comparison.

Only don't call the Israelis the Nazis. The Arabs began this war with murderous intent, and only their abject failure to achieve victory has prevented them from acting on that murderous desire. Islamic rejection is rooted in a self-conception that will not tolerate formerly Islamic lands being ruled by infidels - certainly not by a bunch of filthy Jews. And so they seek after war. The root of this conflict us not found in Israel. If you wish to solve it, go harangue the Palestinians. The war goes on until they decide to stop.

Or until all the Jews are dead.

  35. Hi,

Why not? We are being ecumenical .Besides which, I'm just reading through and translating the journals of my mother and grandmother, who both used more than one language in their writings, so far I've counted the following being used :

    Judeo -Arabic
    Arabic
    Hebrew
    Aramaic
    Latin
    English
    French
    Ladino

Not bad for people from a 'third world' country, eh?
