My candidates for the President of Israel....

Hi All,

Via the Jerusalem Post- Israel's Knesset ( Parliament) is in the process of electing a new President

"Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein announced on Monday that the elections for president will be held on June 10.In his meetings with candidates over the past week, Edelstein told them the race would be held on a Tuesday or Wednesday in mid-June, which they took to mean June 17 or 18. Candidates asked for the race to be held as late as possible to give them more time to receive endorsements from MKs.By law, the Knesset speaker has to announce the date at least three weeks before the race. Candidates need to announce their candidacy and submit the signatures of 10 MKs who support them two weeks before the race. MKs can sign for only one candidate."

So  here are my own choices for the next President of Israel  -

This is just a bit of fun  & speculation on my part -

1. Natalie Portman

2. Rabbi Natan Slifkin

3.  Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks

  1. Question is do you want 'elder statesmen effect' or 'Duchess of Cambridge effect?

Elder statesmen - Jonathan or Mel

Duchess of Cambridge- Nat or Scarlett

So the 'dark horse' would be Natan. He'd be a good VP or Cabinet Minister.

Palestine - the whole of Palestine is home to the Palestinian people.

Everyone on this earth is entitled to defend their homeland against invasion, occupation and colonisation.

When Israel colonises Palestine they call it 'settlement building". When the Palestinian people try to fight back Israel calls that 'terrorism'.

It is interesting how many South Africans both black and white have commented on the similarity of their own experience of apartheid after visiting Israel and the Occupied Territories. Here is a selection:

"(The Zionists) Took Israel from the Arabs after the Arabs had lived there for a thousand years. In that, I agree with them, Israel, like South Africa, is an apartheid state".
(Dr. Verwoerd - Prime Minister of Apartheid South Africa).
Whilst Archbishop Desmond Tutu wrote after a trip to Israel:
"I am a black South African, and if I were to change the names, a description of what is happening in the Gaza Strip and West Bank could describe events in South Africa [under apartheid]. ".
Meanwhile Nelson Mandela reflecting on his own peoples struggle for freedom commented in 1997
"The UN took a strong stand against apartheid, and over the years, an international consensus was built, which helped to bring an end to this iniquitous system. But we know too well that our freedom is incomplete without the freedom of the Palestinians".
Meanwhile this from Mondli Makhanya, Editor in Chief , South African Sunday Times, July 2008. "It seems to me that the Israelis would like the Palestinians to disappear. There was never anything like that in our case. The whites did not want the blacks to disappear ''.

In 1976 the then South African Prime Minister John Vorster was afforded a state banquet during a visit to Israel. At the official welcome, Israel's Yitzhak Rabin made a toast to "the ideals shared by Israel and South Africa: The hopes for justice and coexistence". The following year, the 'Official Year Book of the Republic of South Africa' noted that 'Israel and South Africa have one thing above all in common: they are both situated in a predominantly hostile world inhabited by dark peoples '. Finally even Israel's Foreign Ministry predicted in 2004 that if the 'conflict with the Palestinians is not resolved', Israel 'could turn into a pariah state, on a par with South Africa during the apartheid years'.
('Israel could become a pariah state, Warns Report', Associated Press 14th October, 2004)

It is interesting as we talk of apartheid that Tzipi Livni a senior Israeli politician is in London today (Thursday 15th May) to speak to a gathering of an organization called the Jewish National Fund (JNF). The JNF directly owns 13% of all land in Israel. The JNF will not rent, lease or allow any Israeli-Arab (they make up 20% of the population), to live on any part of that land. That is both discrimination and apartheid within the Israeli state itself. Here is how the JNF itself described itself.
"Is not a public body that works for the benefit of all citizens of the state. The loyalty of the JNF is given to the Jewish people and only to them is the JNF obligated. The JNF, as the owner of the JNF land, does not have the duty to practice equality towards all citizens of the state".
What one wonders would British Jews feel if there was an organization within the UK which very openly and deliberately stated they would not rent, lease, or sell land to Jewish citizens of Britain?

  5. Shit, what a bloody awful decision to have to make! Ah, feck it. I'm voting for Scarlett Johansson with Natalie Portman for VP.... (OK I don't think Israel has a VP, but we could 'create' the post).

Slifkin could become Minister for religion. Mel Brookes could head up the Supreme Court...

  7. Great to see you've joined Hamas then. What's next? Endorsement of executing gays via cranes? "Collaborators" via tying a person to a motorbike and driving them around till their guts spill over the floor? Where is your brain?

  8. Yeah, except Israel doesn't do and isn't an 'apartheid state'; we've been through this before.

  9. There'll all Jewish. Israel is a pluralistic, diverse democracy. Are there no 'True Grit' Irish men who Israeli citizens?

  11. Europe should have very little to say about Israel & apartheid. After all, it was Europe, not South Africa that invented it.

Ghettos in Italy, Inquisitions in Spain, pogroms in Ukraine & Russia, the Holocaust... all this hatred was designed to keep Jews separated and unequal, wounded and dead.

So finally when the Jews have had enough of Europe's murderous and unjust treatment they pack up and return to the one place they call home -- a mere 1/100,000 of the territory of all arabia and the levant that the arabs solely occupy under a truly apartheid religious caste system. Now Europe turns around and calls Israel apartheid under a thinly veiled canard of land stealing from a "people" that has turned down lots of option for a state -- if palestinians ever really wanted one. EU should hang its head in the shame of its own HYPOCRISY, not the Jews that it drove away under the threat of extinction at the hands of its own apartheid policies towards the Jews. Your "clever" over-concern for "poor" palestine betrays your true motives, more than you may think.

  12. Dodo is Jewish through his father - does this entitle him to Jewish citizenship? If so, despite his 'Catholic of a conservative leaning' views, Jack would nominate him. He tells me he would find suitable roles for Natalie, Scarlett and Rachel as special advisers and pay close attention to them, so they would have some influence on affairs.

  17. Of course, thinking about it, 'Wingnut' is possibly a sexist slur when used in 'urban terms' as it means being slightly deranged. It is also 'hate speech' against the protected group of people with mental health disabilities.
In industrial use a wingnut is the receptive part of a double bolt and is referred to in female terms. The other part, the wingbolt, is referred to in male terms for obvious reasons. (That's the way they were made and for a specific purpose in the mind of their designer and maker.
Happy Jack has decided not to change his name as it would be open to way too much ambiguity.

  23. Mel Brooks is disqualified because he was unable to write a decent ending for 'Blazing Saddles.'

  24. I got to thinking. Since people in Great Britain speak only a vague approximation of English, I thought I should clarify. That's 'decent' as in 'of sufficient quality' and not 'decent' as in 'morally acceptable.'

  26. President of Israel is mostly ceremonial, so it'd have to be Mel Brookes and one of the ladies. Rav Slifkin is needed as a general in the trenches.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yeah, I know. The English should learn at least another language. So alongside English, we could teach American in schools. Forget French.

  28. I can't even remember what the ending of Blazing Saddles actually was; too busy laughing out loud all through the film.

  29. I agree. I should have also suggested a LGBTQ candidate as well.

  30. Wiki says this -

""Wingnut" (sometimes "wing-nut") is an American political term used as a slur referring to a person who holds extreme, and often irrational, political views"

Anyways I've been called worse, such as a K & D -I'm sure you'll get what they are without repeating them, if you think 1) Jew 2) Lesbian.
