John Kerry as Odo?

David here,

Well it seems that the failing shambles that is the lame duck Obama Administration (see this Telegraph article) in the persona of  Secretary of State John Kerry, is upsetting even the uber liberal Israeli  Haartez newspaper or at least one of its correspondents who writes :

Kerry isn’t anti-Israeli; on the contrary, he's a true friend to Israel. But his conduct in recent days over the Gaza cease-fire raises serious doubts over his judgment and perception of regional events. It's as if he isn't the foreign minister of the world's most powerful nation, but an alien, who just disembarked his spaceship in the Mideast. For a few moments Friday one could not avoid recalling the things Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon said about Kerry, and admit that despite the fact that it wasn't appropriate, he may have had a point.
Ouch.

But some clearly already have sensed Kerry's other worldliness:

The Democrats have, for decades, lobbied against Israel. The US State Department, since 1948, was against recognition of Israel. They were reined in by presidents and congressmen who had a different vision. But now, the atheist party has gathered its strength and is striking out against God-s chosen. They cannot help themselves. This is prophecy.

  2. Republicans and Democrats both are returning to isolationism. Any big shot democrat will be just as bad as kerry and obama--republicans are returning to isolationism-israel needs to be less dependent on america and find ways to frustrate iranians' nuclear ambitions

The flame that burns Twice as bright burns half as long.

America is in the process of overextension, indebtedness and detaching itself from any realistic global strategy. When they go down, watch to see them bring a lot of other people down too.

Yes, but I think the assault on Gaza was so extreme this time that Kerry and Obama were genuinely shocked. Ditto Phillip Hammond. Although they parroted the usual crap about Israel having the right to defend itself, behind the scenes they seemed to put a lot of pressure on Netanyahu. No, I'm not taking the piss, I genuinely think that's why things have gone quiet over there today.

At the very least our Peace Envoy Tony should be there helping Kerry push for a ceasefire.

Strange (and depressing) to see this blog supporting the unsupportable.

1,000 Palestinians dead and only 32 Israelis. Of the 32 Israelis, 30 are soldiers and 1 civilian bringing food and aid to the soldiers, and 1 real civilian. Therefore 1, I repeat 1, civilian is the victim of terrorism. One.

According to the UN, 75% of the Palestinians killed are civilians, the other 250 resistance fighters.

So, a legitimate question WHO ARE THE TERRORISTS HERE?

Nobody with a rational mind supports the Israeli Taliban having a picnic while they cheer on the slaughter in deck chairs.

The really worrying aspect of this current unprovoked attack on Gaza is that it is in large part motivated by the Israeli attempt to monopolise its gas resources.I wonder if Israel is considering moving in Saudi Arabia? They have huge oil reserves. And Iran..........

  8. In the last 2 weeks, the Hamas has executed 13 "collaborators", shot many more in the legs to prevent them from moving around, and put hundreds of Fatah members under house arrest.

Western journalists know that the Hamas is using human shields, but are scared to report it, as they are a long way from home.

The Hamas has ordered people to stay in their homes, but has only put that order on their Arabic language website, not on the English language version.

  10. Any response to a terrorist group by a country using it's army will not be a war of equals.Do this mean that no country can ever respond using it's military to suppress the terrorist activity against it's citizens? That would be absurd.Any country under military threat by a group, no matter how large or small, has the right to try to stop that group.Ah, "but it's disproportionate" I hear you cry.

First, this running score of deaths on each side is something that I've not witnessed being broadcast in the same way for any other conflict - including those Britain itself was directly involved in. We might get a summary at the end - but never a daily update of the dead on each side - in the news ticker - almost like reporting on a sports event.

I assume that Guardian, the BBC, the UN and Al Jazeera do not have reporters on every street. So how do they know who'd fire killed each person? If Israel moves forward into another street or neighborhood, and is fired at by Hammas fighters using their guns, rocket propelled, anti-tank rockets, booby trap bombs, and civilians in the area who have ignored warnings to leave their homes are hit and injured or killed, who's to say whether this was by Israeli or Hammas fire? Granted, Israel has, and uses more fire power (e.g. from the air, sea) - but Hammas has plenty of it's own - and, if you watch the videos of the battle - everyone fires back at the source of firing aimed at them - and it's very difficult to see who is there - hence innocent civilians are hit - but who's to say by whom??? Assuming that all Palestinians are killed by Israel is not accurate - just as some Israeli soldiers are killed by friendly fire.

Every one of these lives lost is a tragedy. A lost loved one. A lost life.
What's disproportionate here is the reporting. The hate in the media. The strong opinions. They are totally disproportionate to the activity on the ground, relative to other conflicts in the world.

    Just for the record:
Sudan 1983 war - 1 million muslims dead
    Iraq 1988 war - 800,000 muslims dead
    Algeria - 1991 war - 150,000 muslims dead
    Algeria - 2011 Arab Spring - 174,000 muslims dead
    Syria - 2011 war - 250,000 muslims dead
None of the above killed by Israel

Gaza 2014 war - 1000+ muslims dead while Israel looks for rockets in tunnels aimed at its citizens.

Which one received more media attention, views, opinions, hate?

  11. That old chestnut ?Israel has enough gas reserves without Gaza or its territorial waters. As for Saudi and Iran. Are you serious? Israel isn't stupid. You on the other hand....

  12. We will survive Obama. The real question is will America survive Obama. There is no country more damaged by this pandering brainless oaf than the United States. Running from fundraiser to fundraiser, never interested in the well being of those that elected him, Obama continues to be in over is head. Everything Obama touches turns to garbage. Every plan of Obama results in disaster. One day we can be sure the truth will come out. When Obama is no longer President he will join the long line of hucksters, and petty thieves that plague American politics with his snout firmly planted up the back side of whomever offers him the biggest payoff. Never has a man of lower moral character sat in the Oval Office.

  13. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine the true political leader of the free world would be holding office in Jerusalem, and not 1600 Pennsylvania Ave - at least in my lifetime.I weep that my country has grown so weak, so quickly, after offering so much to so many. And it makes me ashamed that I could do nothing about it.

  14. Quite American Friend28 July 2014 at 22:22

I am American, a Democrat of the South. Shouldn't Obama's sympathies for terrorists been realized by voters back in 2012 (if not 2008)? How many times will this perfidious president betray Israel, and yet be given "a pass"? It should be universal knowledge by now that Obama operates on behalf of America's enemies not her allies and friends !Look at his disgraceful treatment of England with the Falklands and the return of the Churchill bust. And now look at how he panders to terrorists, rather than supporting our Jewish friends in Israel.

I never thought these thoughts would enter my mind, much less the words escape my lips, but IF THIS REGIME IMPERILS ISRAEL IN HER HOUR OF NEED, if our pathological liar and dick-in-chief in the White Mosque fails to defend Israel, I hope the Senate will impeach him for failing to uphold the honor and integrity of the United States of America. For these un-American, leftover hippie burnout, commie/mooslim loving corrupt/thieves enriching themselves from our tax dollars while watching veterans suffer and die from their THIEVERY......I cannot remember when I have been this mad - sorry for rambling.

This administration, quite a while ago already, made a strategic decision to re-align with Shi'ite Iran and the Sunni Muslem Brotherhood at the expense of the traditional alliance with Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Qatar IS Iran. Don't you remember that a few months ago there were whispers that the State Department was talking with Hezbollah? It's dangerous out there. But in the meantime, there is a strategic realignment taking place: Israel, Saudi Arabia, the Gulf states like Kuwait, Bahrein, etc., Egypt are a new alliance. Iraq and Syria were the battlefields. Why do you think he didn't do anything against Assad? The anti-Israeli president, with Jarrett, Clinton, Kerry, et al have succeed in opening a second front - Israel. It's horrifying. But it's realpolitik at its harshest and dirtiest. Look for announcements of economic and military cooperation between Israel and China and India, coming soon to a theater near you!
