Israel is right to respond to terrorism

So Israel is finally reacting to the terror enclave's constant bombardment of Israel and Israeli civilians. Que the predictable twitter war, propaganda by the Islamisists and their bizarre allies the far lefties. Even the BBC has admitted that several photos put on twitter have been from conflicts dating over a decade ago and some not even anything to do with Israel. But what is know is that Israel has been under siege by Hamas and a response was justified, here is the tally of rockets launch into Israel over the past couple of weeks :
June 27: 6 rockets, 2 intercepted
June 28: 3 rockets, Sderot factory burned to ground
June 29: 4 rockets, 2 intercepted
June 30: 16 rockets
July 1: 5 rockets, several mortars, damage to vehicles and a major fire as a result, also mortars
July 2: 10 rockets, 9 mortars, 1 intercepted
July 3: 13 rockets, homes and a summer camp damaged
July 4: 25 rockets, several mortars, 3 intercepted
July 5: Over 20 rockets, including to Beersheva, several mortars, 3 intercepted, some damage and an injury
July 6: Over 25 rockets, some damage
July 7: Over 85 rockets, Hamas claimed to shoot 100 and Islamic Jihad claimed to shoot 60. 13 intercepted
July 8: At least 160 rockets, 7 intercepted, so far, some damage and injuries
I understand that 40,000 reservists have been mobilised and that Hamas has been targeting Tel Aviv. Israel's response should be swift and deadly toward the terrorists; Whilst it would be nice to have support from the US  (Hey Obama, Israel/UK/Canada etc are your ALLIES!),  the first duty of a state is the protect its citizens.  In these circumstances Israel has every duty, if not a right, to 'smoke out the terrorists', as President Bush used to put it.

  1. Hi David,

Um, just getting comfy on a nice sandy beech...

I agree with this article. Israel can't just stand by and let itself be attacked without a response. The aggression started well before the 3 lads were kidnapped & killed and the current tensions & killing in Jerusalem. Hopefully there won't be a ground campaign, but having said that the more I think about it there more there is either going to be a 3 state (Israel, Palestine, Gaza) , 2 state (with Israel controlling Gaza) or 1 state solution (Israel absorbs WB & Gaza as a part of Israel proper and Pals being Israeli citizens). What do you think?

i would like to say that israel are the terrorists and always have been...israel control the power, water and food supplies that are available to the palestinian people. they are not allowed to do business. israeli soldiers take it in their own hands to shoot fishermen who are merely trying to feed their families.........i think people who have taken the side of the israelis should really try and educate themselves....the israeli governmnet has used phospherous bombs.. annialated palestinian hospitals and children...destroyed homes and families and yet people feel israel are the victim here...GET REAL... may allah free palestine and give all the children and families the help they need in order to overcome the evil of israel...i would like to add that there is only a war because israel is violating palesitnian land and i would like to take to remind you that if we look back at history you will realise that israel is a made up contry and did not even exist.....FREE PALESTINE....

  3. If you can't beat them join them. Israel has the wealth and technology, Jordan has the land and the Palestinians have the manpower. Instead of killing each other why not join forces and build a new, democratic and strong nation in the middle east which can lead the whole region and defeat extremism. Historically, these three nations have the same routs and co lived in the old days (during the Romans and beyond).

No Israel must stop building settlements on stolen land and give the Palestinians their Independence. The people are sick of Israel and the Wests double standards. The people are sick of Israel's continued illegal occupation...

So - someone from New York or eastern Europe comes and steals your home and your land, forces you to live in squalor and then bombs the life out of you, week in, week out for over 50 years - and you're surprised the Palestinians react? Beyond comprehension. This conflict is caused by Zionists invading and occupying someone else's country through merciless force!!!!!!!!!

I agree. Sadly you are dealing with extreme RW Zionists on this blog.

    I agree.

The israeli government is doing to the palestinians the same as Hitler did with jews, the difference is that palestinians throw rockets (old, harmless at all, as Israel have lots of protection against them) and jews in nazi germany didn´t .The announcements of Isreali´s PM are quite similar to Hitler´s "final solution".I´m astonished, the similarities are appalling.

I still can´t believe that the jewish people could ever behave as nazis did and if Israel valued life at all it would stop its occupation, settlements, incursions, house demolitions, kidnappings, racism and violence. But we know that it doesn't and every day this fact is confirmed for all to see.

  8. The BBC is genetically anti Israel and pro Palestinian. You should go to BBCWatch.org. They tabulate BBC biases against Israel and its promotion of Palestinians as the 'wronged party'. They have been doing this for at least two years.

A great site with a highly talented writer.

  9. Netanyahu will not be happy until Israel has conquered Gaza and the West Bank and all Palestinians have been evicted from their homeland. The Nakba started by Irgun and Lehi will be completed by Netanyahu's terror campaign.

  10. A blog post on Israel being the real terrorists of the conflict and maybe you will get closer to the truth.

The Bible gives many examples of signs that should warn us of the coming end of the age. While we are also told we will not know the time of the End, God obviously wanted us to know when that time was getting closer. As the Christian church is increasingly drawn into the interfaith movement, and as more and more churches go into isolation, preparing to sleep through the growing attacks on their faith, perhaps God knew it would take a few signs to wake us up and remind us that we have work to do.

Unfortunately, many Christians take the verses that tell us we won't know the time of His coming to mean they should ignore any and all scripture that might warn us of this time of tribulation. Others have fallen into the trap of fearing being labeled a "conspiracy theorist" should they display an interest in the Biblical prophecies about our future on Earth. My philosophy is simple. God included it in the Bible and, since God is all knowing, we should trust that it is something we should know and study along with the rest of His Word.

It is increasingly obvious that the time of our Lord's coming is drawing near. Prophecy is being fulfilled daily, and at a faster pace than ever before

that arab life is worth less in the eyes of the western world has been true for years. Maybe it's a throwback to imperialist times or maybe the crusades??it is institutional rascism.Israel wants a racist Jew-only state, just as the Nazis wanted Germany Judenrein.
We could be on the verge of Nabka Mark 2.I hope the world doesn't stand by and let it happen.

There are three category errors in much of this thread:
    1) Since Israel is an occupier (albeit not of Gaza) it has no right to defend itself
    2) The weaker side is always the victim and the stronger side the aggressor
    3) Anything other than parity of casualties indicates an unfairness/deliberate callous slaughter

    (1) Practically, Israel cannot simply throw its hands in the air and allow rocket fire into pre-1967 borders. Its obligation to its citizens is to stop the rockets. Its obligation, more broadly, is to achieve this end with as few lives lost in either side. If Israel sends warnings before destroying rocket firing or command sites, it is to reduce unnecessary Palestinian loss of life. If Hamas encourages kids to martyr themselves by remaining after such warnings (having deliberately located the rocket firing and command sites in the most densely populated areas) it clearly values those lives less highly than Israel does. A fundamentally different asymmetry than that being alleged by many of these posts.

    (2) It is a good general rule of thumb that the weaker side is a victim and the stronger side the aggressor – but it is not necessarily true, particularly when there is a religious fundamentalist angle. A better measure is which side uses more restraint relative to its capabilities. Under that analysis Israel is not an aggressor - would the US or UK or China or Russia or France for that matter not do anything it takes to eradicate rocket fire immediately if it were being targeted at their citizens? Hamas’s actions are consistent with an inability to accept Israel’s pre-1967 borders (a basic requirement for peace). Israel withdrew from Gaza long ago and the restrictions it imposes are purely security related. Israel would lift all restrictions and disavow military action in Gaza if it did not have legitimate fears that Gaza was being used as a base to launch attacks into Israel – which it is.

    (3) If Israel is trying to avoid unnecessary civilian casualties subject to the overriding objective of stopping rocket fire and Hamas is putting civilians in harms way, what are people suggesting Israel does? Deliberately puts a similar number of Israelis in harms way so as to create a more equitable death toll? Or give up on stopping rocket fire because Hamas has made it impossible to do so without incurring civilian casualties? Both of these are ludicrous expectations.

  17. Dov,

    Well said.

The Israeli government is defending its citizens and doing exactly what millions of Israeli’s have been demanding and that is to put a stop to the thousands of missiles fired into Israel with the sole intention of maiming and killing Israeli civilians. British citizens would demand no less of their government.

Note the big investment in bomb shelters and other means of protection for Israeli civilians and the almost total absence of any protection for Gazan civilians.

    Why would this be?

The psycotic thugs ruling Gaza welcome civilian casualties as a means of pulling the wool over the eyes of gullible with tales of 'Israeli atrocities'.

Common sense is exactly what you seem to lack.

Palestinians who have no choice but to take Israeli nationality but are treated as second class citizens and face the constant threat of pogroms by Jewish nationalists.

  22. I agree. I would also note that Hamas use civilians as human shields to score points over civilian deaths. It is pretty disgusting.

  23. This is flawed. I can't see any of the British media being particularly pro-Israeli and certainly the left is pro-Palestine. I think he idea that Israel is a racist state for being a Jewish state is a joke. Is France racist for being a French state (Le française is literally 'The France')? There are national states all over this planet that are based on dominant religious or ethnic identity. That cannot be racist can it? I think the comparison with Nazi Germany is grossly offensive, but as I have a right to be offended I shall leave that comment on this thread. There will not be a Mabka Mark II; the target is Hamas not the people of Gaza.

  24. Arab Israelis have greater freedoms and rights than fellow Arabs ANYWHERE in the middle east. And they are per capita far richer.

  28. That isn't true. In war there are many casualties, which is why it is better to try and avoid war. Alas Hamas is an organisation that makes that impossible. So this war does need to be fought and it needs to be won. Hamas do not use "water pistols, fireworks and stones"; as my article shows they are launching rocket after rocket against civilian targets. Israel needs to defend herself and her people against this aggression. So I have little time for this bull shit.

  31. Again a ridiculous comparison with hitler and nazi germany. Tell me, where is the mass slaughter, the gas chambers, the attempted conquest of the globe, based on a feeling of racial superiority? Have you actually look at how small Israel actually is? Have you ever studied any history? I doubt it.

    ReplyDelete
  32. There is only war, not because of the 'evil' of Israel, but because of the evil of Hamas and the continued launching of rockets against civilian population centres.

    ReplyDelete
  33. A good question. Esther was writing something up about this; I certainly can't see how Gaza would be viable as a separate state, but I can't see how Palestinians on the WB are supposed to govern it either. Given 90% of the population are classed as 'refugees', perhaps they might be resettled in the WB as part of a peace deal, with Israel taking over Gaza into Israel proper. I don't know, there is a lot of ways this can be settled peacefully. If only the other side were not lobbing rockets at civilians & wanting to kill Jews for being Jews. Then we might stand a chance of peace.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Sounds good, but unrealistic. The Arabs would never agree to it and Israel is there as a safe haven for Jews, so I can't see how it would fare well in a majority Arab federation.
